MARE REQUIREMENTS

Mare Requirements:

Approved mares only ~ pictures or video. Mares with serious inheritable defects or in poor health will not be accepted.

Veterinary statement of clean uterine cytology, including maiden mares due to possible e-coli contamination. This is done to help protect from pregnancy loss. The test is a simple, inexpensive swab of the uterus. If there are numerous white blood cells (indicating inflammation), the swab is then cultured for bacteria.

Culture is necessary only if indicated by cytology, to determine what bacteria to be treated.

Copy of registration papers (if applicable) showing current owner.

Requirements for Mares before arriving for Live Cover Breeding:

 Same as above and including:

Vestibular/clitoral swab to be cultured for klebsiella pneumoniae & pseudomonas aeroginosa.

Current vaccinations at least 30 days prior to arrival against: equine herpes virus (Rhino shot), Eastern & Western Encephalitis, Tetanus, WNV, Influenza, PHF, Rabies, Strangles.

Have been on a regular deworming schedule.

Mares will be accepted for breeding determined on an individual basis, usually during off peak breeding season.

It should be determined what stage the mare is in her heat cycle prior to arrival, either by charting observations or by veterinary palpation.

It is preferable to bring mare in for service one or two days before her heat cycle begins.

It should be noted if a mare is known to have a short cycle (one or two days) or has "silent heats".

Mares with dangerous vices, or refuse to be tied will be returned without breeding.

Please wash off any Show Sheen or any other coat enhancers.

 Rear shoes removed.
